Biblical wisdom is less about knowing many things and more about living well. Proverbs, in particular, is wonderfully practical.
Where wisdom begins
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7
Trusting beyond understanding
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Wisdom for everyday life
- Words: “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1)
- The heart: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
- Friendship: “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” (Proverbs 27:17)
- Work: “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” (Proverbs 16:3)
Wisdom that is simply asked for
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 1:5
